Didn't realize he's never had a SW before from his original D5 build after the 2022 draft, and an uptick feels overdue.
The positives with JBJ, who while not perfect as a player has had real NBA value:
The negatives with JBJ:
Overall, he's not a 75 anymore, but I don't think he's cracked that 80+ range either. A modest increase is needed.

The positives with JBJ, who while not perfect as a player has had real NBA value:
- Very durable and consistent (Averaged 31 MPG in his career and has played 134 of a possible 137 games across two seasons, starting all of them)
- Solid counting stats line of 13.1/7.8/1.4/1.5 STOCKs per game, with improvements from his rookie season to this year in rebounding in particular (up to 8.7 RPG per game, with his defensive rebounding rate of 22% in the 87th percentile League wide per basketball EPM). He's doing all of this on a sub 20% USG rate (his efficiency as a shooter is up this year on a downtick in USG rate to just 17%) for a deep Rockets group.
- Sneakily a very solid rim protector; per Cleaning the Glass, the Rockets are in the 89th percentile for rim protection when he's on the floor with opponents attempting nearly 4 less FTs per game in the minutes he's on the floor.
- Very conscientious with the ball as he's averaged only 1.2 TOs per game.
The negatives with JBJ:
- For someone who was billed as a shooter coming out of Auburn, the jumper has come and gone. For his career, he's a 33% 3PT shooter on 5 attempts per game. He's brought up his percentage quite a bit in Year 2 (35%) from Year 1 (30%), but it is still well off his Auburn percentages of 42% from 3 on 5.5 attempts a game. His FG% also leaves something to be desired, with more improvement from Year 1 (40%) to Year 2 (45%), but not where he needs to be if he wants to grow further. His FT% has been very good for a big at 80%, but he only gets to the line 2.5 times a game and his TS % reflects that at 56%.
- The man cannot really pass -- only 1.6 APG in his career, which gives him a positive AST:TO rate given he takes care of the ball extremely well but he cannot really create for others. This is not because he's selfish as a player like some of his teammates -- he just doesn't show the passing chops/vision for a jumbo wing/big.
- Absolutely murders teams on the offensive glass (HOU is in the 90th percentile for ORB when he and Sengun are on the floor) when he's interested in crashing it -- gets way too happy hanging out on the perimeter to space than use his size and rebounding prowess to help the Rockets create more possessions.
Overall, he's not a 75 anymore, but I don't think he's cracked that 80+ range either. A modest increase is needed.
